How to Wear Modern Utility

Modern utility is one of our big trends for this season. Unlike most trends, which are created by designers and pushed down to the street, modern utility grew organically before being picked up by major labels. Comprised of robust, utilitarian pieces, its practical nature means it isn’t about buying one flash piece, it’s about how you combine the clothes you already own. To give you a starter on the styling, we got together three of our our social ambassadors who make it look easy:

Autumn’s here and it’s time to invest in new outerwear. If you want to work some Modern Utility into your wardrobe, look to robust and utilitarian pieces, particularly ones with a military heritage. Bombers and flight jackets are a must as we move into winter, but autumn calls for overshirts and windbreakers to make transitional dressing easy.

Washed-out tones are a key part of the modern utility look. When styling them, look to layer them in combination with each other, playing the contrasting colours off against each other.

Accessories are the perfect way to round out the look and they follow the same rules as the rest of the trend. Tonal colours, utilitarian details and robust construction all combine to make the ideal bag.
