The Rugby: Where To Watch & What To Wear

It’s time for the rugby fans to come out in droves: the world cup is here and we’re into it.

More fixtures, more tv-prioritising arguments, the Rugby World Cup 2019 has kicked off in style with an England win (35-3 isn’t a bad start!). We’ve no doubt that you’re all-too-familiar with the timetable, so we want to give you some viewing options (and outfits to match) to see out the trophy in style.

Watching at home, feet up.

There’s nothing better than a rugby Sunday; feet up on the sofa, beer in hand, snacks at the ready, kick-off in 5 minutes. If this sounds like a bit of you, you’ll know all too well that having the right loungewear is essential to getting through the 80 minutes of action.

Let’s face it, you can’t really jump up in celebration wearing restricting jeans or have a frustrated “REF?” without worrying about spilling your drink on your shirt. What you need is comfy loungewear that can take a few knocks but still look great.

We’ve picked out loungewear that ticks all the boxes. You can wear it inside just as easy as you can wear it on a quick shop run for rugby-watching essentials.

Watching at the pub.

Because this is inevitable, it’s handy to have an outfit you can pull on if last-minute plans demand. When watching sports at the pub, it’s more than likely that there will be spillage. How to get over this? Dark clothing. Wear clothes that, if covered in beer, won’t ruin your look entirely (and just chuck it in the wash when you get home).

As tempting as it may be to wear your comfies out to the pub, try to opt for jeans or trousers instead. If you end up going out afterwards (celebrating or commissary-drinking), you don’t want to be the only one of your mates who is severely underdressed. Think pockets, too. Your phone and wallet need a safe home throughout.

Rise to the occasion.

You’d be mad to go the whole Rugby World Cup without sporting a rugby shirt at least once. One of the comfiest (and most stylish) items of clothing a guy can own, rugby shirts are about to make a wave.

You can wear them in, out and everywhere. Partner with joggers for a sports-luxe look or a pair of jeans to give your outfit an athletic feel.
