Meet The Queens Of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 5

RuPaul’s Drag Race fan? Then you’ve probably been anticipating All Stars 5 for quite some time. Luckily, the wait is finally over and the new season is currently airing on Netflix.

Whether you’re watching each episode as they come or you’re waiting so you can binge, we thought we’d look back at when we met four of this season’s contestants in London. Want to know their beauty secrets, the most valuable lessons they’ve learnt in their career to date and why they all love London? Read on…

Miz Cracker – Season 10 (5th place)

In 2018, Miz Cracker placed 5th on season ten of the prestigious drag competition and in her own words was ‘completely crushed’ when she got eliminated just one week before the final. From her iconic appearance as the pickle ‘Doctor Dill’ to what was probably one of the best makeover challenge looks in the show’s history, Miz Cracker left a lasting impression. Now she’s back to prove that she’s got even better. We met her after her panel at DragCon London 2020 to ask her a few questions…

What do you love about coming to London?

London is one of the cities that treats me the best – and I just don’t say that – it’s really true. Katelyn, my co-pilot, and I really get the star treatment in London and the UK and we can experience what it’s like to be Trixie Mattel. It’s a great thing.

What do you want fans to take away from meeting you?

I want them to leave with the feeling that I’m someone you can just walk up to and talk to any time.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt in your career?

That your home is where your creative mind is. I thought it was where I lived but it’s wherever I got to create things. So your home could be wherever you want it to be.

How do you create your looks?

What I’m wearing today came from Stockholm – we just walked by this store and I thought I’d have one of these. I try to draw inspiration from wherever I am, so making myself at home also means drawing things from the area around me. RuPaul told me he loved the material of this dress, so… I won today’s challenge.

Shea Coulée – Season 9 (3rd/4th place)

After winning challenge after challenge in her first season, Shea was the clear fan favourite in 2017. But, in a surprising twist, her competitor Sasha Velour beat her with a show-stopping performance in their final head-to-head lip-synch battle. Considered by many to have been robbed of the title, she now returns to the competition for another shot at winning. We spoke to her at DragWorld London in 2019 to get to know her even better…

Why are you excited to be in London?

I just love this city. London was the first place I came to internationally from the US when I was 19 and I did a trip with some friends. The first gay bar that I went to was here because in the US you have to be 21 to go to bars. I’m so happy to be back; I’ve made so many amazing friends on my travels here.

What is your make up hack to make your look last all day?

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. It’s my go-to. It holds up like nothing else.

What is something you never travel without?

Good skincare. Planes dry you out so much, so I always make sure I have some good serums and moisturisers with me. You just need those when you’re on the road.

What do you want fans to take away from meeting you?

I just want them to feel welcome and loved. I know in my persona I project a lot of confidence and fierceness but I’m really just a warm person and I love meeting people.

Derrick Barry – Season 8 (5th place)

Derrick Barry first rose to fame with her impeccable Britney Spears impersonations and earned a spot on season eight of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2016. Although she made it to the top five, Derrick ultimately struggled to showcase her own aesthetic in the competition. After years of refining her drag persona, she now returns to All Stars to prove that she has so much more to offer. Last year, we caught up with Derrick at DragWorld London. Here’s what we learned…

What is something you never travel without?

I always have a memory foam pillow with me that I fold as a wedge and use as a sleeping pillow for next to the window on a plane. If you don’t travel with pillows, it’s the most uncomfortable thing. Unless you’re flying first class which, let’s be real, most people aren’t.

How do you plan your looks for a convention like DragWorld?

This time, I wanted to bring two very different drag looks to show that there isn’t just one style of drag that can be sexy. I did an army look and one inspired by Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. I wanted to do two complete, extreme opposites that are both drag -but one is generally considered sexier I guess. To me, they both are – that’s what I want people to take away.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt in your career?

When I was on America’s Got Talent, I was so thankful for the girl that booked our travels and I kept thanking her over and over again. Then she said ‘you need to start thanking yourself because you showed up’. Those two words ‘showed up’ just completely infiltrated into my life. I’m already that person that’ll say yes to anything but to have someone say ‘this happened because you showed up’ changed everything for me.

Blair St. Clair – Season 10 (9th place)

When Blair St. Clair first competed on season ten of RuPaul’s Drag Race, she was only 22 and hadn’t yet completely found her feet in the world of drag. After placing 9th, she took the time to learn and grow and now has the whole package of a superstar. With a repertoire of great pop songs and a music video in her pocket, she’s more than ready to return to the competition. We met her at DragWorld and asked her how she got to where she is today…

What is something you never travel without?

I never travel without hairspray. It can be used for so many things. I spray it on a little spoolie for my eyelashes, I use it on my hair to glue it down and the alcohol in it can break down stains! It’s like the all-purpose cleaner.

What is your make-up hack to make your look last all day?

That’s kind of trial and error at this point. The number one most important part of make-up to me is the moisturising routine. Skincare is the foundation of any look and will make it last and look the best it possibly can. If you cleanse and tone your skin well and then make sure that the pH balance of your moisturiser is perfect for your skin, any make-up can look good and last.

What do you want fans to take away from meeting you?

I really want people to take away the experience of acceptance and the fact that these events happen thanks to people that are so inclusive, loving and special. This is not an event that turns people away, it accepts and celebrates everyone.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt in your career?

There are two things I’ve learnt. The first would be to stop and take breaks and the second is to celebrate yourself. There are many times when I wake up and think ‘oh but I want to be there right now’, but I’m grateful for where I’ve come from and where I am today. Many times I forget that, but it’s important to always remember how far you’ve come.
