Get Yourself Down to the House of Vans

Vans have been at the nexus of street culture since the 1980’s, bringing together anyone who’s anyone from the worlds of music, skating, BMX and graffiti. The House of Vans is the physical manifestation of this. Featuring art galleries, artist incubator spaces, cinemas, live music venues, restaurants, and skater built and designed concrete bowls, mini ramps and street courses, they’re the only spot you need for a culture-heavy day off. There are permanent locations in Brooklyn and London, as well as pop ups across Canada, China, Brazil, Korea and Malaysia that deliver the label’s diverse cultural experience across the globe. To give you a taste of what makes House of Vans so great, we’ve pulled together some of the best events coming up in their Waterloo location that you can pop into:

The Eternal Beauty Of Snowboarding -Trailer- from JeromeTanon on Vimeo.

Loose Change + The Eternal Beauty of Snowboarding Screening – 6th October
Directed by Vans’ own Sparrow Knox, Loose Change is a snowboarding film that focuses on the places and people that make up the scene instead of the tricks. Following a group of snowboarders, photographers and journalists through Turkey, India, Kazakhstan and Japan, the film explores places rarely seen on the typical circuit. Opening the night is Jérôme Tanon’s The Eternal Beauty of Snowboarding, an ‘existential journey into the true life of snowboarders’ that shows what snowboarding is really like, warts and all.

Festifeel – 8th + 9th October
An annual event that raises money for breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel!, Festifeel is known for its eclectic line up that features the best new bands alongside art installations, and stand up. If you can make it down you’ll be treated to music from the Stereophonics, Rae Morris and Flyte, comedy from Russell Howard and Legs Akimbo and Djing by Goldie Rocks.

Overlay Poster Making Workshop – 15th October
Graphic designers would be fools to miss this. Multimedia artist Harry Brown will be down in House of Vans to host an afternoon of trippy poster printing. All you need to do is submit your image to Vans by Wednesday the 12th of October and join the workshop to print and produce your own personalised A2 poster.
