“The t-shirt is the first component of any man’s wardrobe” – wise words from Alfie Marcus, Topman Personal Shopper. If you’ve not been paying enough attention to your t-shirt game, it’s time to focus on the most essential of layers. Check out Alfie’s guide to the 5 t-shirts you need to add to your wardrobe right now.
A splash of colour is never a bad thing…and this t-shirt is literally that. I really like the quirky use of pattern – it’s an unusual piece that you won’t find anywhere else. Plus you’ll feel like you’re walking around in a Jackson Pollock masterpiece (which has to be a good thing).
The ribbed t-shirt has commonly been used as an undershirt – its slim, fitted shape is perfect for wearing under a textured knit or denim shirt. Alternatively, it looks great worn as a main layer with just a Harrington jacket over the top - think James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause.
Urban streetwear is set to continue as a huge trend in 2015 and was prominent on the runways during LC:M. Something also re-emerging is everyone’s favourite: black-on-black. The different textures in this t-shirt allow you to nail both trends, just team with a pair of black spray on skinny jeans and you’re good to go.
This t-shirt is a great way of introducing a bit of colour into your spring wardrobe without things getting too lairy. The subtle print works nicely when styled with a pair of dark indigo skinny jeans and denim jacket.
The raw edge gives a real grunge feel to this t-shirt and its loose fit means it looks great with a pair of ripped stretch skinny jeans. Seeing as it’s freezing at the moment though, I’d recommend layering up with a black leather jacket for the full look.
