If you’re heading to prom this year, you must, above all else, remember this one golden rule: never rent your tuxedo. It’s just not worth it. Not because rented tuxedos tend to be ill-fitting, over-priced and, yes, smelly – but because the classic tux is about so much more than just a one night fling. The real value of a tuxedo comes after prom, when you can experiment with breaking it up and integrating it into your everyday wardrobe – the trousers look great with simple tees, and the jacket looks spot-on paired with ripped skinny jeans.
In terms of tailoring, the tux is the undisputed prom king. Its iconic appeal has seen it worn by everyone from 007 to Alex Turner at this year’s Brits. Just don’t forget the bow tie.
Reinvent the classic prom look by introducing some prints and patterns into your outfit. Swap the smart shirt for a floral pattern or a geometric print, accessorise with a skinny tie.

TIME FOR TEE
If in doubt, lose the shirt and tuxedo jacket completely – match your skinny tuxedo trousers with an unfussy scoop neck tee and a black leather biker jacket.
